I've noticed recently that I might end up running into a few problems with my LuLu publishing for my exhibition regarding the bleeding process for printing my book.
In the publishing world, bleeding is a term used for how much space is needed for images before it runs over into space needed for other features of the item. With a book this could mean the space needed to bind the spine together.
I've noticed that whilst looking on LuLu, the book size that I am using doesn't actually show any dimensions for bleeding room. I know that the books entire dimensions are 9 by 7 inches, which is the page size that I've been working on for my artwork on photoshop. However I'm not actually sure if the 9 x 7 is including bleeding space or not. If its not including bleeding space then thats totally fine as it means that my images will still be seen in full without worrying about getting lost in the spine. However, if the dimensions are including the bleeding then this will mean that my artwork and writing that is too close to the side may very well run over into the very side of the book and get lost in the binding, meaning that I could potentially ruin the entire layout and presentation of my book when its printed for the exhibition.
What i'm going to do is go into the on site page editor to get my pages together into the layout that they would be for the hard copy book version and see if it actually bleeds off of the template. They have backup programs for this so I'm glad that they've taken it into consideration.
I'll do that within the next few days I think, when I've gotten the more immediate things out of the way regarding the FMP. Heres hoping it all comes together!
