Mood Board: Silent Hill

Yet another mood board and this time It contains the creatures of one of my favourite game series of all time: Silent Hill.

Since the first Silent Hill game came out I've always been fascinated by the creature designs, from the small flesh eating beetles right up to the towering Pyramid Heads. Its this variety of monsters that makes Silent Hill a must go to for the designs of my grotesque infected creatures.

The first mood board I made for Silent Hill was focusing more on the two legged and more humanoid creatures such as the Nurse, Butcher and Valtiel monsters. Although my infected won't look like them in facial appearance there are still plenty of things I can learn from them to educate myself. For one, the clothing that the Silent Hill creatures wear is very similar to that of general infected / zombie humanoids, clothing is filthy, bloodied and tattered, often revealing the more private parts of the body such as the breasts. The way the humanoid creatures move is also very fitting of infected as they walk with a very rickety gait, the player can hear the creatures bones popping and grinding in their sockets as they move.

The second mood board that I made focused more on the monstrous animals and quadruped creatures of Silent Hill. This mood board is more focused on the infected animals that I'll be designing to go into my art book such as maned wolves, big cats and monkeys. The thing that I like most about this mood board is that most of the creatures are actually quite similar only with distinguishable variations in appearance. Its this technique that I'll be using with my creatures and indeed some of my more humanoid infected also.
