Character Development: Coby Kekoa

Coby Kekoa is the first moderately solid character that I have created for my game art book. Though there is still some cleaning up of his design left for me to do I'm quite happy with the progression of this particular character. 

Coby is a 26 year old man from Hawaii and has come to Brazil for the annual carnival in Rio as well as to catch some waves with his friends. When the outbreak occurred Coby and his friends were split apart in the panic and the Hawaiian man ran to the beach and secluded himself on top of his surfboard for 2 days until thirst got the better of him and he swam back to shore.

When he arrived back on land there were no signs of life, the sand was stained red from the hundreds of beach-goers that weren't as lucky to get to the open water in time. Coby's friends were no where in sight and he knew it was unlikely he would ever see them again. Going in search for some water to replenish himself Coby stumbled upon a now derelict shopping mart, the till had already been stolen as had all other goods considered to be of any true value.

After cautiously scuffling through the isles Coby eventually came across a refrigerator containing fresh water and immediately quenched his thirst, although the water was bordering on warm it felt unimaginably soothing to his throat. After a few minutes of regaining some of his hydration Coby began searching the back rooms of the shopping mart and found a crowbar, better than nothing when dealing with the infected he supposed.

As more days passed Coby kept to the shoreline, always within a few steps of the sea incase the infected decided to ambush which they did on quite a few occasions. Coby only went back to the shopping mart when needed and had fashioned his own little safety raft from the various other surf boards dotted around the beach. It was a month after the Rio outbreak when he met the first group of living souls since the event, and after introductions became a valuable member of the forming group.

Coby is a perky soul who will always try to respond positively towards the things around him. Being somewhat of a hippie he doesn't do they hunting and tries to avoid dealing with infected when he can. Coby's roll in the team is to craft shelter and monitor the ocean tide for prospective fish as well as keeping an eye on the weather. He is a melee character and does not excel with firearms and is average with a bow.
