We had out final crit yesterday and for once I actually really enjoyed it!
Normally I can't stand crit sessions as its a whole load of sitting around on our backsides listening to people drone on about their own projects in a stuffy room from 9:00am till 4:00pm or after.
Thankfully this time we actually got to upload our work onto our own computers and leave some paper on our desks for people to walk around and personally go through work at their own pace and comment as they go. This method of doing crits is SO much better than all sitting in a group, usually by the time the first break of the day arrives everyone has already lost interest and when people loose interest they don't give good feedback. So being able to actively walk around and review peoples work was really quite awesome.
Rather than just leaving blank paper for my classmates to look through I decided to leave a few questions that I wanted answering about my book for my classmates to comment on.
The most important questions being "which front cover should I use?" and "Is my art drawn to a professional standard?"
After the day was done I got a LOT of positive feedback as well as some much needed answers to the problems I was facing regarding the books covers and layout.
This crit really helped me to pick out a few of the design flaws in my work and to polish it up to the best of my ability. With any luck I should have corrected all of my amendments in good time before the hand in date.
It really is a shame that we didn't do more crits like the one that we had yesterday. Everyone really enjoyed walking around and looking at everyone else's work and it was just as much fun watching other peoples projects and writing feedback for them too.
